I have been bad yet again and have only posted 3 times this month, oh dear. Seeing as I seem to have started 3 post in the 3rd month, I think I shall continue with this and post 4 in the 4th month, 5 in the 5th month, 6…I think you get it!

Million dollar view for sale

Today’s recipe: Crayfish / rock lobster with lemon butter
The view from the house.
Now who wouldn’t want to wake up everyday to this glorious sight? This is the view from the lounge window of our great friends, Len and Joey, in Cape Town. Joerg stayed with them when he first moved to South Africa and was they became second parents to the both of us (how unlucky could they get!?). Those were the days when I was young and pretty instead of just “and”…

Oysters, fresh and fried

A photo of a plate of fresh oysters.
I have to make a confession: it’s been 2 weeks since my last post. You’ve noticed? Today is my birthday and I was born in the year of the monkey (I think), but I should have been born in the year of the dog as I seem always to be chasing my tail! Sorry about that, but all that running about in circles chasing my tail put me way behind with everything, but I am back with a vengeance and so let me get back to our holiday (before I completely forget that such a thing exists as not working and having fun!). As always, your oyster recipes will be at the end of the post.

Crab, avocado and radish salad with Ponzu dressing

Photo of crab salad with Ponzu dressing.

As I mentioned in older posts, I was in the USofA at the beginning of the year and joined up with 2 of my 3 American sisters. While at The Cape (Cape Cod to be precise), Lynn and I went out for Chinese and she introduced me to a Crab, Avocado and Radish Salad. It was deevine to say the very least and I have since been looking for a recipe.

Fish Chowder made the Narragansett way

Photo of Fish Chowder.

As I mentioned in my last post, we had my in-laws to stay for a few weeks and were able to celebrate my brother-in-law’s 42nd birthday with friends, 16 of us to be precise. For this special event, I made a Narragansett Fish Chowder for starters, stuffed smoked salmon parcels for an in-between course, and then smoked chicken and salads for the main course. I had Sally and Em bring the desserts – very clever on my part as they were both delicious. All recipes will follow in due course!

Fish Cakes, Napoleon's favourite

Today's recipe is: Napoleon's Fish Cakes

Fish Cakes

Okay, so maybe they weren’t exactly historically speaking his favorite, but if he were in exile today, they would be. For sure. I mean, how could they not be?? (Sigh) It seems I am once again getting ahead of myself so I will attempt to start at the beginning. You see, I made Napoleon fishcakes for supper last night and they got me remembering……….

Pizza Dough 101 and a Smoked Salmon Pizza

SUBTITLE: BRAS, PIZZA AND CO.
A photo of a smoked salmon pizza slice.

What does buying a bra have to do with pizza, you may ask. After the following ordeal, I needed some sustenance, i.e., food. I always need food when I am stressed, happy, sad, up, down…..so basically always. And so it was the pizza place in St. Gaudens that was to fulfill my ravenous appetite. If you happen to go there for lunch, try to sit on the left side upon entering – the lady that serves the right hand side hasn’t as yet heard that smiling does not cause an immediate and painful death…..

Paella and the Celebration of a life

The Paella

Today's recipe is: Paella
One would think that living on a farm with your nearest neigbour almost a kilometer away would be “oh so boring”, but this is so not the case in the south west of France. We have to fight for a night in, in front of the telly. And this last week has been no exception - in fact the last 3 months have been no exception. We’ve had visitors or been out 9 times in the last 2 weeks!! I need some time to lie on the sofa, I mean, write this blog, for goodness sake. Well, that’s it. This week I’m here to stay and finally post some (hopefully) interesting stories and recipes. Just have to answer the phone quickly and I’ll be right back………….
