On the road again! Northern Spain

Ozaeta Dam and National Park
So finally after a 7 month break, I’m back to blogging!! Life just got in the way, sigh. We are now back on the road and I have every intention of boring you with all the details about our fantastic adventures, so feel free to come along for the ride if you’d like to.

Welcome to Portugal!

Singing sunset near Quarteira
Okay, so we’ve been here for 3 months already, but I just had to tell you all about South Africa before I could tell you all about Portugal. We are LOVING Portugal as always, so let’s get up to date shall we.

Signal Hill, Cape Town, and John Lennon

 Signal Hill
Like I mentioned in my Cape Town post, my sister-in-law and I walked the dogs on the mountain every day and one of our walks was just under Signal Hill with beautiful views across Cape Town bay and city. How lucky to live in such a beautiful place, or even just visit it in our case.

Jakkalsfontein, West Coast, South Africa

Jakkalsfontein
This is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Yes, I do realise that I say this fairly often, but this really is spectacular. I just loooooooove the West Coast. There are hundreds of miles of sandy beaches with only the rough Atlantic waves and baby seals about – just plain perfect.

The Wonderful Wiggins Family

Our friends
We met Antoinette and Winston in December 1993 when we had a sailboat in Port Owen, Velddrif, on the west coast of South Africa and we have been friends ever since. They are just soooooo amazing and we are privileged to have them as friends. Oh yes, and their kids are deeevine too! And the doggies too!

Ostrich egg scrambled eggs

Ostrich egg
To make scrambled eggs with an ostrich egg, you have to break an ostrich egg and this is quite a process, especially if you want to keep the egg shell whole. But where there’s a (wifely) will there’s a (husbandly) way, and so I have my whole egg to craft with!

Swellendam and Jansehuis cottage

Jansehuis Swellendam
I think this is one of the most beautiful places ever. South Africa is in the grips of a massive drought, but the Swellendam area has been spared and is lush and green. And this cottage is just a dream come true.

Ronnie’s "Sex" Shop, Western Cape

Ronnie’s sex shop
NO NO NO, I am definitely not lowering the tone of this blog and talking about sex!! Honestly, what you people think of me, hrumpf. Ronnie had originally written Ronnie’s Shop on the side of his shop and then a few friends thought, I know what I’ll do on a lazy Saturday night…

Oudshoorn, Klein Karoo, Western Cape

Feather dusters
“A heart without dreams is like a bird without feathers” (from Suzy Kassem).
I’ve been to Oudshoorn several times and I personally think it’s a real gem of a place. It does get very hot, but then you just go to the Cango Caves and you’ll be nice and cool in there. Now the Cango Caves could belong to the 7 wonders of South Africa if such a thing existed.

Knysna and my lovely Uncle Terry and Aunty Helen

Knysna taken from the heads
As you may have realised by now, I am blessed with only wonderful family members and my Uncle Terry and Aunty Helen are no exception to this rule. They cooked us a “Sunday” lunch on a Wednesday with only a few hours notice and spend the whole day driving us around showing us the many beautiful sights around Knysna. I am a very lucky girl.
